Les Amis d’Escoffier Society: Founded in 1936 former pupils of Auguste Escoffier gathered at the Waldorf Astoria to form an all-male organization of dedicated gastronomes called Les Amis d’Escoffier Society of New York., this prestigious culinary organization pays homage to the legendary chef Auguste Escoffier. Its mission is to uphold the traditions of haute cuisine and fine dining. Members include chefs, restaurateurs, and business executives who share a passion for exceptional food. The society hosts exclusive epicurean dinners and supports culinary education through scholarships for student chefs. Between courses during each dinner, leading food and wine professionals provide commentary on each dish and the wine served. Similarly in Boston a Chapter was formed in Boston by Charles L. Banino, Executive Chef of The Ritz Carlton and other chefs and hotel executives in 1937. Soon after a Chapter in Chicago was formed with others in Albany NY, San Diego and New England following. On a side note--- Not to be upstaged in 1959 Eda Saccone and Charles L. Banino, had the courage to create an all-female culinary alliance modeled after Les Amis d’Escoffier Society of New York. Eda was granted the first Charter in Boston that ultimately launched Les Dames des d’Escoffier. It was known for spectacular dinners and fundraising events to benefit food and wine charities. Then in 1966 Joseph Donon, the founder of Les Amis d’Escoffier, granted Les Dames des Amis d’Escoffier its charter, making it the first women’s chapter. There after it morphed into Les Dames des Amis d’Escoffier International with Chapters around the world. |
